How many households in the US are running on 100% Renewable Energy?

The city I live in offers renewable energy for a little extra every month and I purchase 100% of my energy this way. Just wondering how many others are doing the same.

2. It sounds like you're helping fund renewable energy purchases by the utility. I don't think that they are routing your power over a different grid so the renewably sourced energy purchased through the program goes onto the main grid but it an amount equal to your usage. 100% renewable use is achieved by being off the grid for gas, oil and electricity. I've seen it in Hawaii with people using solely wind and solar power for their household energy. Most places are not able to do this because of temperature extremes which cause household demand to exceed capacity. Even places that could, generally dont' have many people off the grid due to the large upfront expense and unknown lifespan of the infrastructure needed to do this.
3. We live in Portland, OR and just signed up for 100% renewable energy. We know several people who are signed up as well.
4. I worked in the electric power industry for many years. The only thing they can do is pass on the higher cost of producing electricity from wind, solar, etc. They still just supply you with whatever is on the grid at the time you need it. There is no way of separating it. Sounds like a good idea. My supplier does not offer this. It allows the consumer to pay more for alternatives, so the power company can invest in more of the higher cost alternative types. They can then use the more unreliable alternative types when it is available, but still have the conventional for reliability. (wind doesn't produce when no wind, solar doesn't when no sun, etc, etc,)
