What does buying green energy credits mean?
Public Comments
- You pay too much to buy from an unprofitable energy producer.
- That you've been ripped off by the biggest scam of the 21st Century.
- You're buying the right to destroy our environment. It is a scam, but both the scammed and the scammer are wrong for it.
- It means that Al Gore is getting your monry
- I've looked it up and there is really nothing to tell me what a "green credit" or "carbon offeset" really is. Supposedly you are to calculate your energy usage and get an immediate report of your carbon footprint. No matter how little energy you use, they still want you to fork over some money, for me anywhere between $12.00 and $20.00 a month. This money is supposed to go to help plant trees making me "carbon neutral." The problem is, these are unregulated sites or fronts with no accountability and most of the money goes to Uncle Al and the investors that expect to make tons of money off our energy use. Carbon offsets are nothing more than a paper that tells us we've bought something without getting back a product. But it does nothing to stop litter or dirty air. It's one of those intangibles that sound like a pyramid scheme where you pay into something and get someone to do the same. Eventually this implodes because there is no actual "thing" or product being traded.
- I have no idea
- It means if you have the $$$$, you can buy " credits " from someone who doesn't use up all the natural resources at their disposal. For example, if you have wetlands that you preserve, a Nobel Prize winner can buy your " credits " and pave over his wetlands and park his Hybrid SUV on it.
- That you're taking part in a scam...
